MES Celebrates a good year
Metro Evangeliese Sorg (MES) received a strong financial boost of R45 000 at their annual impact function.
The money donated to the organisation was raised through a golf day organised by Vision Insurance and Cattle Baron Tijger Waterfront.
The purpose of the function was to provide feedback to stakeholders of the organisation and to celebrate the past year.
MES is a Christian, social development organisation that extends help to the vulnerable and at-risk.
Fanie Botha (chairperson: advisory committee, MES) said at the function the sustainable empowerment of people is what the organisation focuses on.
One of the focal points for the next years is to stabilise cities and expand services. MES also has a Johannesburg branch.
Fanie said one of the organisation’s national goals is to break the cycle of poverty by providing holistic, high quality developmental services that are implemented through the MES model.
Branch manager at MES Cape Town, Ilse Els, briefed guests about the past year (2010/2011) at MES, what was achieved and the challenges they faced.
“We started this year by losing our drop-in centre close to the taxi rank,” said Ilse.
However, she added that over the past year, 14048 meals were provided, 1838 people were assisted with clothing and 566 people were assisted with blankets, among other aid that was distributed.
